Consumer price index increases 2017-10-12 14:17

In September 2017, the national consumer price index rose by 0.2% compared to the preceding month, by 5.3% from the end of previous year and by 5.8% from the same period of 2016. 

The Consumer price index to remain positive at 5.8%, was mainly influenced by increase of transport group prices by 10.4% (purchase of vehicles increased by 22.7%); food and non-alcoholic beverages group by 7.5% (potato and vegetables prices grew by 31.2%, non-alcoholic beverages by 12.7%, and milk, dairy products and eggs by 11.1%); housing water, electricity and fuels group by 7.4% (electricity, gas and other fuels increased by 11.2%); education group by 5.5% (secondary education increased by 32.1%); and clothing, footwear and cloth group by 3.5%, respectively.
 
Price change of 5.3% from the end of previous year in consumer goods and services was primarily due to increase in prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages group by 8.6% (meat and meat products increased by 13.8%, and potato and vegetables by 31.6%) and prices for transport group by 10.0%.
 
Price change of 0.2% from the previous month in consumer goods and services was mainly due to increase of 1.8% in prices for housing, water, electricity and fuels group (electricity, gas and other fuels increased by 3.1%).
 
Drop of consumer price index is observed in Darkhan-Uul, Bulgan, Bayankhongor, Zavkhan, Uvs, Uvurkhangai, Gobi-Altai, Tuv, Dornogovi, Dundgovi aimags at 0.1%-1.0%. While in opposite a growth is observed in remaining aimags at 0.2%-0.5% compared with the preceding month. Consumer price index raised the most in Khovd and Selenge aimags as well as in the capital city at 0.5%.
 
In the capital city Ulaanbaatar, as of September 2017, the consumer price index grew by 0.5% from the previous month, by 6.6% from the end of previous year, and by 6.6% from the same period of 2016. The change of 6.6% from the same period of the previous year was mainly affected by increase of 10.4% in prices for transport group, 9.2% in prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages group, 3.8% in prices for clothing, footwear and cloth group, 10.9% in prices for housing, water, electricity and fuels group, and 7.4% in prices for education group, respectively.
 
Price change of 6.6% from the end of previous year in consumer goods and services of Ulaanbaatar was mainly due to increase of 11.0% in prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages group (meat and meat products increased by 14.9%) and 10.1% in prices for transport group (purchase of vehicles increased by 23.5%). Change of 0.5% from the previous month in Ulaanbaatar was mainly due to increase of 2.6% in prices for housing, water, electricity and fuels group, and 1.6% in prices for clothing, footwear and cloth group. In reference period, the price of 23.3% of consumer basket items for Ulaanbaatar city (344 consumer goods and services) increased. Whereas a price decrease observed on 13.4% of items and the rest items price 63.3% did not change from the previous month. As for 100 food items selected for the consumer price survey, price of 47 of them increased.
 
In September 2017, the industrial producer price index increased by 4.0% compared with the previous month, by 44.7% compared with the end of previous year and by 72.8% compared with the same period of previous year.
 
In September 2017, the industrial producer price increased by 4.0% compared with the previous month was mainly due to increase of 4.8% in mining and quarrying sector prices (price of mining of coal and lignite, extraction of peat increased by 3.0%, extraction of crude petroleum and natural gas by 5.0%, and mining of metal ores by 7.7%).
