Tourist visas to be discounted 2017-01-05 18:25

A government resolution allowing preferential visa conditions for tourists booking through travel agencies, as part of intergovernmental and inter-ministerial memoranda and agreements, was approved in order to boost tourism.

Moreover, foreign nationals transiting through Mongolia will be allowed to stay in Mongolia without a visa for 72 hours based on their travel visa and flight tickets. The Minister of Road and Transportation Development was tasked with reducing and facilitating discounts on the price of direct flights by domestic Mongolian airlines from October to May each year.
Sustainable, green tourism can contribute greatly to economic diversification and will increase foreign currency inflows. In addition, a government resolution to establish a state-owned enterprise named the "Tourism Development Centre" was approved.
The enterprise will work under the Ministry of Environment, Green Development and Tourism by ensuring the tourism policy implementation, supporting the ministry, implementing projects and programmes, developing statistics, researches and analysis, advertising the country internationally and improving services and products for tourists.
About two-thirds of nations have national tourism development organisations. The ministry holds that the reason why policies on tourism development, implementation of programmes and results are insufficient is due to the lack of a state institution overseeing the sector.
As of 2015, more than 1.3 billion people travelled globally, and this number is expected to reach 1.8 billion by 2030. The tourism industry accounts for 10 percent of total global products, 30 percent of trade and service, 5 percent of tax revenue, and one in every 11 people are employed in this sector.
